Kaslo Citizen of the Year Award – Program Overview

The Kaslo Citizen of the Year Award celebrates residents who go above and beyond in their service to the community. It recognizes individuals who devote their time, skills, and energy to making Kaslo a more caring, resilient, beautiful, and inclusive place to live. Whether through volunteerism, professional contributions, or quiet acts of leadership, these individuals strengthen the fabric of village life.


Why Nominate

This award is an opportunity to publicly acknowledge someone who uplifts others and inspires positive change. Nominations may highlight volunteer efforts, community leadership, long‑standing service, or contributions made through one’s work.

To preserve the spirit of the award, please do not inform the nominee that they have been nominated.

Key Dates – 2026 Citizen of the Year

  • Nomination Deadline: June 5, 2026
  • Award Recipient Announced: August 14, 2026
  • Presentation: At the Village of Kaslo’s annual birthday celebration


Before You Begin Your Nomination

  • Review the nomination guidelines
  • Confirm that both nominator and nominee meet eligibility requirements
  • Prepare your nomination statement
  • Gather all contact information
  • Gather any letters of support or supplementary material

Nominator Eligibility

Any individual, group, or organization may submit a nomination, with the following exceptions:

  • Members of the Selection Committee and their immediate family
  • Village of Kaslo Council members and their immediate family


Nominee Eligibility

To be eligible, nominees must:

  • Be a resident of Kaslo or the surrounding area
  • Have made a meaningful contribution to the community through volunteer or professional work

The following are not eligible:

  • Self‑nominations
  • Posthumous nominations
  • Past Citizen of the Year recipients
  • Members of the Selection Committee and their immediate family
  • Sitting elected officials (municipal, provincial, or federal)

Nominations for individuals under 19 must include permission from a parent or guardian.

How Recipients Are Selected & Recognized

An independent Selection Committee reviews all nominations and selects the recipient based on established criteria. Only the selected nominee will be contacted. Recipients are honoured at the Village of Kaslo’s annual birthday celebration and receive a commemorative plaque from the Village of Kaslo.


Privacy

All nominations are kept confidential between the nominator and the Village of Kaslo. Information about the selected recipient may be used for public recognition on the Village’s website, social media, and other communications.
